Sambar Recipe | Homemade Sambar recipe

Sambar is originally a south Indian Recipe popular in all corners of India.

Sambar recipe is a stew made from lintels and vegetables.

The ingredients for sambhar recipe may vary a little according to the local taste buy more or less it is very tasty and loved by all.

Popularly it is served with Idli or Dosa, but it taste equally great with rice or chapati.

Ingradients for Sambar Recipe

  • 1 bowl bottle guard,
  • 1 bowl pumpkin,
  • 1/2 bowl carrot,
  • 1/2 bowl soaked of Red Lintel,
  • 2 table spoon Home Made Sambar Masala,
  • 1 table spoon Black Mustard,
  • 2 dried Red Chili,
  • 1/2 tea spoon kashmiri Red Chili,
  • 1/4 bowl curry Leaves,
  • 1/2 tea spoon Red Chili Powder,
  • 1 Table Spoon Coriander Powder,
  • 1/2 table spoon Turmeric powder,
  • 1 bowl of Soaked Tamarind.
  • 2 table spoon mustard oil.
  • salt to taste.

How to Cook Sambar

  • heat 2 table spoon of mustard oil in a cooker,
  • to this add Black Mustard,
  • 2 psc. red dry chili,
  • 8 to 10 curry Leaves,
  • add turmeric powder, coriander powder,
  • Add home made sambar masala, and mix well,
  • now add diced carrot, diced pumpkin,
  • add bottle guard, red lintel, salt to taste,
  • add red chili powder and mix well, and fry for 2 minutes,
  • now add water as per your desired consistency,
  • cook for 2 whistle,
  • open the lid of cooker, to this add tamarind pulp,
  • add some kashmeri red powder it gives a wonderful colour,
  • boil for few minutes at simmer.

Tadka for Sambar Recipe

  • heat 1 table spoon mustard oil in tadka pan,
  • to this add 1/2 tea spoon black mustard, 4 – 5 curry leaves,
  • 1 dry red chili and our tadka is ready,

Add this tadka to the sambar and close with a lid, this is important to lock the aroma of tadka inside this enhances the taste and smell of Sambar.

Our Tasty Sambar is ready to serve hot with Idli, Dosa, Rice or any other prepration.

For some other variant of Sambar one can add Eggplant, Drumstick or can also use split pigeon peas (toor dal )

One important note is that if you like vegetables to hold shape don’t over cook or vice versa.
